I’ve recorded a handful of live sets over the past year and I decided it was time to slowly start releasing more live material. This set was from earlier this month at @blackbirdordinary, one of my absolute favorite places to play. I enjoy it so much because I have the freedom to play WHATEVER I WANT. There are no words to describe the feeling of having the freedom to paint a blank musical canvas however you please, with every color available to you. I had no idea what I was going to play on this night, so this set was completely off the top, freestyle, unrehearsed. Of course there are certain mixes that I perform regularly, as well as songs that I usually play together because they flow great, but for the most part, I was picking records based on the crowd and vibe that particular night. For the record, this is how I believe DJ’s should play… Reading the crowd and playing the right records at the right time is always #1, everything else comes second.. If you’re a casual listener, I hope you enjoy the music in this mix. If you’re a DJ, I hope you’re able to pick up something new or at least be inspired to crush your next live set. :)
